Potato virus S (PVS) was found naturally infecting some imported seed tuber potato cultivars (cvs). Bioassay using Chenopodium quinoa test plants, the micro-precipitin test and enzme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were compared for detecting PVS in imported potato cvs on different sampling dates. The use of test plants to detect PVS was more sensitive than the micro-precipitin test, on most of the sampling dates but less sensitive than ELISA.
