Response of soybean plants to foliar application of zinc under different levels of nitrogen [Egypt]

The present investigation was carried out during 1986 and 1987 seasons to study the response of soybean plants (Crawford cv.) to zinc concentrations and time of its foliar application under different levels of nitrogen fertilization. The main results can be summarized as follows:-Plant height, numbers of branches and pods/ plant, seed index, seed yield per plant and per faddan as well as seed protein percentage significantly increased by increasing nitrogen levels up to 60 kg N/ fad. Whereas, seed oil content increased by adding 30 kgN/ fad as compared to control (zero N) as well as 60 kg N/ fad. Foliar application of zinc greatly increased plant height, seed yield and its components as well as seed oil and protein contents as compared to the control treatment, i.e. spraying with distilled water. Spraying zinc in two equal portions, after 30 and 45 days from sowing, was the most favourable treatment for increasing seed yield/ fad. Maximum seed yield/ fad, over both seasons, under the environmental contitions of Mansoura province was obtained from the treatment including 60 kgN/ fad foliar spraying with 0.3% Zn divided into two equal doses, after 30 days from sowing.
