Two digestibility experiments were carried in the present investigation using Rahmany rams in order to study the following aims: (1) The effect of treatment of cane bagasse or pith with 5% sodium hydroxide (NaOH) on the utilization of the whole diets and (2) the effect of different rations between NaOH treated bagasse and molasses on the nutritive value of the diets. In the Ist experiment, bagasse and pith were treated with 5% NaOH and compared with untreated materials in a ration contained cottonseed cake as the main source of protein in the diet. Four adult animals were fed the questioned materials at the maintaiance level. The results showed that NaOH treatment of sugar cane byproducts improve the feed intake, digestibility coefficient of DM, OM, CP and NFF and the nutritive value of the diets. However, the response to NaOH treatment was higher with sugar cane pith than bagasse.
