Variation in protein banding patterns as revealed by page in the faba types of Vicia: A contribution to the taxonomic dispute in the species [Egypt]

The evolutionary relationships among varieties and mutants belonging to the three Vicia faba types were studied using electrophoretic banding patterns and total seed protein content. Great variations in relative mobilities (Rm) and intensities (Ri) of bands as well as total protein content were found between varieties and types. Such variabilities were observed also between the three mutants and their original variety "R. 40". Relating the present results with other cytological and cytochemical observations reported in our earlier papers, support the concept that the differences among groups of Vicia faba are rather a result of strong evolutionary diversification in this species
