The effect of vegetation types on the distribution of organic phosphorus in some Ghanaian soils

The study examines the effect of vegetation types on distribution of organic phosphorus and its relationship with other soil factors (such as organic carbon, total nitrogen and pH) in the Ejura and Amantin Soil series from the interior Savanna zone, and the Akroso-Bediase series from the semi-deciduous rain forest zone of Ghana. The forest soils showed the highest average content of total organic, mineral and available phosphorus (45.5 ppm - 10.5 ppm range) as compared with the Savanna soils, the available phosphorus showing regular decrease with depth. Total, available and organic phosphorus showed positive correlation with total nitrogen organic carbon and pH (p 0.01) for all the soils
