Runoff and soil loss under four different legumes

Soil loss and run-off under four different legumes, bambara, groundnut, cowpea, canavalia, and a bare cultivated plot (control) on a forest ochrosol are evaluated. The four legumes gave significantly lower run-off and soil loss values than the bare plot, the order being bare bambara groundnuts cowpea canavalia. Soil loss in tonnes/ha under canavalia and cowpea were 1.93 and 2.36 and bare plot 9.79 groundnuts 3.81, and bambara 4.86. The C-factor values were cowpea 0.30, canavalia 0.31, groundnuts 0.43, and bambara 0.57
