The ration contained 17.6 (starter feed between day 1-28) and 14.4 (grower feed between day 29-49) g/MJ ME crude protein, respectively. The energy content of the feeds varied between 11.48 and 14.64 MJ/kg. The isocaloric (12.77 MJ/kg) feeds used in the 2nd experiment contained 17.2-26.7 per cent starter feed between day 1-24; 15.0-23.0 per cent (grower feed between day 21-35) and 14.5-20.0 per cent (finisher feed after day 35) protein, respectively. Weight gain of the male birds improved by the rising level of both energy and protein, however, non-linearly. Females have shown improvement only in the lower planes of energy and protein and it was only half of that of the cocks. Rising plane of energy and protein improved the feed conversion, but this failed to counterbalance the increased feeding expenses.
