Changes of certain minerals contents in goat milk during the lactation period

The paper shows results of a study of changes in the Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe and Cl contents of a blended goat milk during the period of lactation. The Na content during this period has shown a slight increase from 59.44 mg/100 g to 67.46, similarly to the concentration which increased from 164.9 to 170.7 mg/100 g of milk. During the lactation period the Mg contents have also shown a slight increase from 9.90 to 14.38 mg/100 g, as have those of P having increased by 3.4 per cent. On the other hand the Ca contents decreased slightly, from 137.57 to 128.20 mg/100 g similarly to the concentration of chlorine showing a drop of 6.5 per cent during lactation. From the trace elements, we have studied changes occuring in the Fe content and found an increase from 0.023 at the beginning to 0.026 mg/100 g at the end of the lactation period. Changes in the concentration of sodium and chlorides were statistically significant, those of iron insignificant at the 0.05 level of significance. Between the beginning and midpoint of the period of lactation, statistically significant changes in the phosphorus and magnesium contents were found as well. By comparing average values of element contents in goats' milk, with those found in cow's milk, lower values for Na were found (by 12.8 per cent), higher for K (by 13 per cent), present in amounts higher for Ca (7.5 per cent) and Mg (1.3 per cent). Chlorine was present in amounts higher by 45.1 per cent but the Fe content was lower by 19.1 per cent as in cow's milk.
