A greenhouse experiment was conducted to determine the appropriate soil moisture content for barley seed germination, on soil samples collected from the northern regions of Jordan, representing soil series 11, 15, and 31. The experiment was repeated twice using two sets of soil moisture levels. The first set constitutes 10, 12, 15, 17 and 20% moisture by weight, and the second set 23, 33, 43, 53, and 63% moisture by weight. The results obtained indicate that the optimum soil moisture levels for barley seed germination ranged from 33% to 43% for soil series 11, 15, and 31, where 95% to 98% of the seeds had germinated
