[Influence of nursery plant spacing on growth and yield of greenhouse tomatoes]
1987
Tesi, R. (Florence Univ. (Italy). Dipartimento di Ortoflorofrutticoltura) | Tosi, D.
Tomato seedlings were grown in polystyrene alveolate containers of equal area but with a different number of cells: 22, 32, 52, 103 and 150, corresponding to a density of 135, 196, 319, 631 and 919 plants/m2. The plants obtained by seedlings grown in nursery at density up to 319 plants/m2 showed always a delay in flowering, fruit set and ripening, and the early yield, at half the period of harvesting, was clearly inferior (40-50% lower). Instead the total yield was not reduced significantly
