Effect of soil amendments on the availability of phosphate accumulated in paddy soil

An attempt was made to investigate the behavior and chemical fractions of the phosphate fixed in the paddy soil with the treatment of soil amendments under the laboratory condition. The content of available phosphorus in the submerged soil after 10 days under the incubation increased in the order of lime, compost and starch. The applications of phosphorus resulted in increasing the inorganic fractions of Fe-P, Al-P, Occl. Al-Fe-P but decreasing Red. Fe-P. in the soil. The chemical fraction of Al-P decreased by the addition of starch while those of Fe-P and Ca-P remarkably decreased by lime treatment. The fractional recoveries of added phosphorus in the soil were greatest at 30 days after submergence and increased with the treatment of soil amendments in comparison with no treatment and showed significant positive correlation with available phosphorus in the soil
