A process of pulping bagasse in an aqueous solution containing sodium carbonate at an elevated temperature of at least 200 deg F and at least 50 psig is described. Desirably, at least 80% of the Na2O content is in the form of sodium carbonate and the balance is in the form of sodium hydroxide.
