Soil enzymic activity under plants cultivated in monoculture

Studies of soil enzymic activity under sugar beet, field pea and winter wheat cultivated in monoculture were carried out over the years 1982-83. A significant effect of a plant cultivation, depth and period of sampling on enzymic activity was found. The highest activity of arylsulphatase, rodenase and cellulase was observed during spring and autumn, whereas invertase activity was highest in August. Enzymes were most active in the layer of 0-20 cm, independently of a plant and period of sampling
