Biological assay based on stimulatory effect of somatomedin on 35S incorporation into chondroitin of pelvic cartilages in chicken embryos was used for study plasma somatomedin activity in dairy heifers. Plasma somatomedin activity was positively correlated with growth rate and negatively with age of sexual maturity in heifers
