Varietal characteristics of sugar beet in relation to mineral fertilization

The following has been established after a field experiment with 30 sugar beet varieties using mineral (NPK) nutrition: 1. A high average root yield (65.37 t/ha) and digestion (16.95%) which resulted in significant yields of biological sugar (11.09 t/ha); 2. Differences between varieties were the lowest in digestion and the same in root and biological sugar yields; 3. Digestion was in a positive correlation with the yield, while the sugar content in the beet depended more strongly on root mass than on the sugar content in it; 4. The properties of varieties clearly affect the mineral composition of the leaves and roots; 5. A large number of correlations between the root yields, sugar, digestion and mineral composition, have been established; 6. The established complexity of relations depends on hereditary factors and factors of the outside environment.
