Influence of increasing quantities of nitrogen on yield and quality of malting barley in the highlands of Kraljevo region [Yugoslavia]

It has been established that regardless of the amount of precipitation during the vegetation season of barley, yield has increased for both sorts, in comparison with a parcel which has not been fertilized, by using mineral fertilizer. In the years, when in the growing season of barley water-level reached 333 mm, with increased quantities of nitrogen, yield decreased. In spite of increased amounts of nitrogen, yields dropped mainly due to lodging. By increasing the amount of nitrogen, the protein content of grain increases while starch and extract decrease, regardless of the amount of precipitation in the vegetation season of barley. For the Kraguj variety fertilizer with 60-80 kg N/ha has been recommended, and for the Georgie variety 80-100 kg N/ha.
