Effect of fruit thinning on fruit size, yield and quality of Guava cv. Kazipiara [in Bangladesh]

A study on the effect of fruit thinning on the yield and quality of guava fruits cv. Kazipiara was conducted at the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Joydebpur during September 1986 to September 1987. Thinning all single fruits (38%) and thinning of one fruit from double fruited cluster (26%) in the off season crop in winter increased the individual fruit weight significantly. However, per plant fruit yield decreased significantly with increasing degree of thinning. In the main crop during summer season, the effect of thinning showed similar trend in respect of individual fruit weight and per plant fruit yield. However, TSS was recorded more in the larger fruits obtained by thinning.
