A field experiment was conducted in calcareous soils during boro season. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design with three replications using BR8 as test crop. P as TSP 40 and 80 kg P2O5/ha, Zn as ZnSO4. 7H2O 0.5, 10 and 15kg Zn/ha and Mg as MgSO4. 7H2O 60 and 120kg Mg/ha were applied. The number of treatment combinations was 17. N as urea and K as MP were applied 120 kg N/ha and 60 kg K2O/ha, respectively as basal doses. Mineral contents and yields (grain and straw) were measured at maturity. The yield and mineral (P, Zn and Mg) uptake of rice increased with the application of P, Zn and Mg in calcareous soils. P 80 kg P2O5/ha increased values over 40 kg/ha and Mg 60 kg Mg/ha over 120 kg/ha. Zn above 5 kg Zn/ha showed detrimental effect. Zn and Mg significantly enhance the yield and mineral uptake of rice which suggests that Zn and Mg fertilizations are essential in calcareous soil particularly with higher level of Phosphorus.
