This paper deals with the resistance of 6 rice varieties to whitebacked planthopper (WBPH), Sogatella furcifera Horvath at different rice ages and the relationship between the nutrients in rice sheath and the varietal resistance. The results indicated that the resistant varieties ARC 10239, Rathu Heenati (RH) and the moderate resistant (MR) varieties N22, Mudgo had a significant adverse effect on WBPH's feeding survival and fecundity compared with the susceptible variety TN 1; the line 9101 was suitable for its ovipositing after booting. After tillering, the resistant level of varieties, especially MR varieties N22 and Mudgo, increased progressively with the increase of plant age. There was significant negative correlation between the total nitrogen and free amino acid (mainly leucine and alanine) content in rice sheath and the resistant level of rice variety
