Using the container transport system in grain harvesting

The use of containers in grain transport during harvest is a transport system allowing to separate the harvesting and transporting parts of the harvesting line: containers are left on the ground on the field side, forming a temporary grain depot. In this way the interdependence between both parts of the line is minimized, because the irregularities of the operations are offset by the storage capacity of the containers. The container carrier loading time is reduced to the time of replacement of the full container by the empty one (10 minutes). The performance of the container carrier is greater by about 50 per cent in comparison with the dump trucks. In other words, the time of operation of the means of transport during harvesting is reduced to a half. A pilot operation trial has demonstrated that if the organizational principles of harvesting and transport are respected, the performance of the harvesters is not reduced although they must ride to the container and empty their grain tank at a standstill. Another merit of the system is the elimination of the trucks' riding over the fields (except the headland strips). The technology is a practical implementation of the conception of differentiated transport with the use of harvesters equipped with grain tanks.
