From Japanese quail experimental results it is evident that changes of protein levels in feed can intensively influence ontogenetic development of xanthine dehydrogenase activity (XDH) in liver and kidneys. However, liver compensates the changes of the catabolic enzyme level more sensitively and intensively. The organ activity of XDH can be used for the accurate determination of protein level in poultry nutrition.
