The combining ability of the important quality characters, viz. oil total glucosinolate and protein contents in seeds of rape (Brassica napus L.) were analysed according to the procedure I and II described by Griffing. The results indicated that there exists litte positive heterosis for oil content, negative heterosis for the protein content and no heterosis for the total glucosinolate content. The diallel data of the glucosinolate content used as qualitative character were analysed as well. Finally, the possible approaches of obtaining the new genetical germplasms of low glucosinolate by over-coming the linkage between the glucosinolate content and other bad agronomic characters were also discussed, new lines with low glucosinolate content would probably be bred from the high glucosinolate content
