1990
Markus, F.
Hungary contains about 40 000 animal species, of which 619 are protected and 46 are protected in an increased degree. The habitat of the endemic and relictum animal species also has the advantage of protection. There are 46 localities of birds of international importance registered in a total area of 373 000 hectares, of which localities 15 are the wooded type. Increasingly protected bird species here are the lanner, the imperial eagle, the bald eagle, the black stork and the hazel-grouse. Scarcely more than 300 professional nature protectors are insufficient for the consrevational tasks. Special programmes /eagle owl, fish fauna of some mountain torrents/ are to be initiated.
