Effect of calcium carbonate on the growth and mineral content of Eucalyptus camaldulensis seeding

The objective of this study was to determine the effect of CaCO3 on the growth and mineral content of Eucalyptus camaldulensis plants. Six months old seedlings transplanted into plastic pots containing washed sand in the glasshouse. Ingested nutrient solution was used in the study. The percentages of CaCO3 used were as follows: 0, 12, 20 and 50%. Each treatment had five replicates. The results indicate that the addition of 10% CaCO3 and the control treatments gave the highest elongation, fresh weight and dry weight. The lowest elongation and fresh weight were obtained at 20 and 50% CaCO3 and the lowest dry weight at 50% CaCO3. The treatment of 10% CaCO3 gave the highest growth of Eucalyptus camaldilensis plants which contain balanced nutrients contents. The nutrient contents in the shoots of this treatment were as follows: 0.11% P, 0.88% K, 1.47% Ca, 0.18% Mg, 0.5% Na, 3.43 ppm Fe, 0.35 ppm Cu, 2.26 ppm Mn, 0.28 ppm Zn, and 29.0 ppm B
