A discussion on aspects of financial sustainability in the sustainable agriculture debate
1990
Walker, A.B.
This paper discusses the thesis that, in the minds of incumbent farmers, there is a basic trade-off between relinquishing short-term profitability necessary for maintaining financial sustainability and adopting longer-term ecologically sustainable farming practices. Therefore, for the successful adoption of a policy position on sustainable agriculture, the position must, in general, not weaken the short-term financial position of incumbent farmers and should ideally be seen to strengthen their financial position
