No significant relationship was noted between the personal characteristics included in this study and the level of adoption of rice farming technology except family income. Farmers with low income tended to be more adoptive of production technologies than those with high income. The communication factors found to be related to the level of adoption of technology were membership in organization, degree of contact with agricultural extension workers, and attendance in training courses. In terms of situational factors, the following were found to be related to the level of technology adoption: size of the farm, sources of irrigation water, mode of transportation of farm products to market outlet, sources of farm capital, availability of farm inputs and ownership of farm equipment. In the light of the above findings, it can be said that high family income does not ensure the high adoption of recommended production practices. On the other hand, some communication and situational factors in the farmer's world greatly influence his level of technology adoption. The availability of the needed resources, materials, facilities and technical assistance in the community facilitate technology adoption. The farmer's ability to try and to use new practices is also enhanced by his attendance in training courses and membership in farmer's organization. Moreover, the size of the farm and its sources of farm capital motivate him to aspire for higher production and income.
