Simulation of blast effects on yield was done using the IBSNAT (International Benchmark Sites Network for Agrotechnology) Ceres-Rice model by incorporating different disease severities with the potential leaf area calculated by the model. Two approaches were used in the model to determine its ability to estimate yield loss after incorporation. Firstly, one severity level at a time throughout the emergence and juvenile stages of the crops was interfaced. Secondly, severity values of 5%, 50%, and 45% at emergence, juvenile, and floral initiation stages of rice, respectively were used. With the different isoloss curves produced from the simulation runs of the model, it was observed that by interfacing severities with leaf area, simulated biomass (leaf, stem, root, and panicle weights) and yield were reduced as compared with no disease severity. However, simulated tiller number showed increasing values with increasing severity. This discrepancy in tiller values will determine further studies and development of the rice model.
