To expand lowland potato production, farmers need to store their own seed tubers for 9 months at ambient temperatures between growing seasons which is restricted to the dry season from November to February. This two year study assessed yield and subsequent storage behavior set of diverse potato clones in Laguna, Philippines at 150 m asl and 14 deg North latitude. Initially, 1489 clones were stored in diffused-light storage from which 17 clones were superior for storability and yield after two years as compared to the four control cultivars: LT-7, Dalisay, Cosima and Huinkul. The pedigrees of the superior clones included Atlantic, LT-7, Serrana, 377887.17, 378015.16 and Kataholin as parents. Seven of the selected clones produced statistically superior yields with sprout cuttings in comparison with the four control cultivars. The superior clones need to be further evaluated and inter-crossed to develop new populations with a potential of selecting clones with better storage characteristics.
