Yielding of Dutch ryegrass undersowings depending on the sowing and nitrogen rate. Pt. 2. Undersowings in rye cultivated for green fodder

Cultivation of Dutch ryegrass undersown in winter rye as a second crop ensures two cuts of green fodder of much higher mass and fodder value than at its cultivation as an undersown post-harvest crop. Dutch ryegrass gives much higher yields than seradella cultivated in a similar way and is equal with regard to yields to Persian clover. The foliar dressing of ryegrass with nitrogen applied at the rates of 75-300 kg/ha increased the yields of green matter from 32 up to 56 t, of air-dry matter from 7.9 up to 12.5 t, of total protein from 0.9 up to 1.9 t, and of oat units from 7.3 up to 11.3 thousand from hectare as well as increased the fodder value of the grass. However, the nitrogen efficiency was not directly proportional to its rates. The sowing rate of seeds varying from 20 to 80 kg per hectare did not exert any significant effect on yielding and chemical composition of the grass species tested.
