The vegetable was grown on compost soil or on peat substrate with addition of brown coal ash, horn-bone or horn-leather meal and chalk and available mineral fertilizers. After the fertilization the content of selenium oscillated considerably in dependence upon the year and growing time (from 0 to 0.4 mg of Se/kg) of dried leaves. The largest content of lead was found in the plants treated with superphosphate (2.4 mg/kg of d.m.)
