Value of protein of initial barley forms for quality breeding

Protein quality in barley collection was measured chemically and biologically on animals. There were found differences in protein content (13.2-20.8 per cent), lysine in protein (3.64-2.92 g/16 g N) among the group of Euroasiatic cultivars. Lysine content and biological value were slighly decreased when protein content increased. Mexican cultivars had high lysine content (3.62-4.77 g/16 g N) independently on protein content (10.7-15.4 per cent) and their biological value, measured as r NPR was also high. Protein utilized netto by animals was much higher in high protein Mexican cultivars
