The studies were conducted on amelioration of postagricultural lands in 1977-83. Formica polyctena was colonized in a forest division "Niedzwiady" near Szczecinek. The evaluation of the treatment consisted in an inventory of anthills and determination of their health condition (abundance, density of myrmecophilous arthropods, the presence of teratological forms and ant average biomass). It was proved that the method of artificial colonization was correct. The stands intended for cutting or stand borders were most suitable for this purpose whereas the artificial colonization of ants inside thickets and pole-stage stand was an ineffective operation due to an intensive silvicultural practice and wild boars damage. Although the health condition of the artificial colonization was not reduced in relation to parent anthill, the ant populations incorporated into the post-agricultural land experienced a deep environmental stress
