In the year of sowing, when white clover was sown into spring cover crops (barley and wheat) the number and weight of weeds per sq. m was approximately 50 per cent lower than when it was sown without smother in summer or spring. With prolonged plantation utilization the degree of weed infestation increased while field coverage by white clover declined. It was found that, regardless of the way of sowing, the optimum duration of seed plantation utilization is not more than two years from sowing (third vegetative season)
