In 1979, the government of Ethiopia established the Ethiopian Seed Corporation (ESC) to implement a comprehensive national seed plan and develop a system of multiplying and distributing improved seed. This paper reviews the processes of varietal release, seed multiplication, certification and marketing. A list of all wheat varieties released in Ethiopia over the period 1973-87 and the current status of each is presented
