Distribution of plant parasitic nematodes on soybean in Thailand

A survey was conducted from 1986-1987 to determine the distribution rate and population densities of plant parasitic nematodes on soybean in Thailand. One hundred and thirty-four soil and root samples were collected from various soybean crops in 16 provinces in Thailand, distributed throughout the Central, Northern and Northeastern regions the provinces of Chainat, Chiengmai, Kampangphet, Kanchanaburi, Khonkaen, Lampang, Lamphun, Loei, Lopburi, Nakornratchasima, Nakornsawan, Prachinburi, Sukothai, Supanburi, Tak and Utaradit. The survey showed that 7 genera and 14 species of plant parasitic nematodes were present: Helicotylenchus crenacauda; H. dihystera; H. retusus; Hoplolaimus seinhorsti; Meloidogyne graminicola; M. incognita; M. javanica; Paratrichodorus christiei; Pratylenchus brachyurus; P penetrans; Rotylenchulus reniformis; Tylenchorhynchus clavicaudatus; T. crassicaudatus T. martini. The most commonly found nematode in irrigation areas was root-knot nematode M. graminicola. However, in rainfed areas the more common nematodes were M. incognita and Rotylenchulus reniformis. Other nematode genera were not seriously affecting because of their low population and distribution.
