Relationship between milk yield and fertility was investigated on 106 simmental cows bred on private farms in region of Pomurje. Estimated linear correlations between 100-day yield (Median-1795 kg FCM 4 ,) and parturition to first insemination interval (r=0,043), first to successful insemination interval (r=0,134), number of inseminations (r=0,074) and parturition to conception interval (r=0,130) were not significant. High yielding cows had significantly longer parturition to conception interval (118 vs. 92 days) and interval from first to succesful insemination (47 vs. 28 days) in comparison with low yielding cows. For both groups there was no difference in average number of insemination (2,3 vs. 1,9) and interval from parturition to first insemination (71 vs. 04 days). Unsuccesful oestrus detection after first insemination is the main reason for lowered fertility of high yielding cows.
