Influence of thinning cuts on microclimatic changes in young beech forests

The investigations were made in a young beech forest on lime-stone, in which high selective thinnings of moderate intensity were carried out. The obtained changes of light intensity, temperature, relative air hummidity and wind velocity have shown that these thinnings have not much changed the microclimatic conditions in the treated stands in comparison with the untreated ones. The changes of mean daily temperature and relative air humidity are very small, so they have not much influence on temperature and hygric regime in thinned stands. Bigger changes of microclimatic elements in a young stand might be expected with the intensity of thinning by wood volume betwen 20 and 25% (in this case it was only 18%), or with some other types of thinning, using not only high but also low thinning, i.e. mixed one. In this way more light should get trough to the soil, influencing some changes of microclimatic elements in a young beech stand.
