Relations of the first and second order pathogens in the mammary gland of cows

In order to study the effect of the 2nd order pathogens (Micrococcus and Corynebacterium genera) in protection of the mammary gland of cows against infections with the 1st order pathogens (S. agalactiae, S. aureus, S. dysgalactiae and S. uberis), their mutual relations together with the somatic cell count in milk were studied. The investigations were carried out in three cowhouses. Bacteriological examination of milk revealed relations between the 1st and 2nd order pathogens being as follows: 43,96% : 12,5%. 21,43% : 9,53%. 26,06% : 15,21%. In the udder quarters with the somatic cell counts above 1000000/ml and positive findings for the 2nd order pathogens, there were 26.06% and 48,96% infected with the 1st order pathogens, the incidence being 21,43% when the somatic cell count was lower than 600000 ml. The observed relations between the 1st and 2nd order pathogens in naturally occurring infections in the mammary gland did not show any role of the 2nd order pathogens in the protection of the mammary gland against the 1st order pathogens.
