The aim of the investigation was to study the effect of the conditions of growing upon the comparative-differential features of the Prilep tobacco variety grown in pots (glasshouse) and field conditions. The trial was carried out with three rates of nitrogen (30.7 and 100 kg/ha) and a constant amount of phosphorus and potassium nutrients (80 kg/ha P2O5 and 80 kg/ha K2O), with two levels of water humidity. Out of the investigations it could be stated that almost all tobacco features are variable, so no final conclusions could be drawn about the yield, quality and the more important physical and chemical features of tobacco grown in pots. Such conclusions could be drawn if they are based upon the results obtained for tobacco grown in field conditions. The biological laboratory provides optimum conditions for a complete physiological investigations. This laboratory is also convenient for investigations in cultural practice, plant protection and breeding, which reduces the time and costs of investigations and helps to obtain a preliminary indicators upon which the further field investigations would be based.
