Estimation of fertility of gilts according to their age at first service

On the basis of the obtained results it was concluded that: the large number of total and liveborn piglets, as well as grown ones, was produced by first-farrowed sows serviced at 305 days of age and the smallest number by those serviced at 216 days of age. These results refer to gilts of pure Swedish Landrace breed. With cross sows, the largest number of piglets was with gilts serviced later, and the smallest one with those serviced first. During the exploitation period the greatest number of litters was with sows serviced first, both with pure Swedish Landrace breed and cross sows.
