Murine mycoplasmosis. 1.First findings of Mycoplasma pulmonis in laboratory mice and rats in Yugoslavia

In a breeding facility of young mice and rats for tumor investigation there appeared symptoms of infection of the respiratory system and the inner ear coupled with increased mortality. On the basis of microbiological, clinical and pathomorphological examination, the animals were considered to have developed murine respiratory mycoplasmosis which had not hitherto been etiologically diagnosed in Yugoslavia. The causative agent of the disease, Mycoplasma pulmonis, was identified by its physiological properties and the serological growth inhibition test. Initial investigations indicate a mounting frequency of infection with M. pulmonis in the facilities for the breeding of laboratory mice and rats in Croatia.
