A review of plasmid instability in Streptomyces as well as the studies and data on plasmid structural instability in Bacillus subtilis in comparison with the similar phenomenon observed in S. lividans and some other Streptomyces strains are presented. Construction of bifunctional plasmid pZG1, its replication in S. lividans 1326 and S. rimosus R6 enabled a partial elucidation of this problem in these industrially important microorganisms.
