The obtained results of the study have shown the following: The commercial preparation of cyanazine (Bladex) has a genotoxic effect on the Salmonella typhimurium bacterium and the Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast. Cyanazine damages the DNA and they are partially remedied by means of the cellular process, under the control of these genes. The nature of the mutations caused by cyanazine and deethyl atrazine is the base substitution in the DNA. Cyanazine is transformed in the maize plant, in vivo, while the product which develops in the plant extract has a stronger mutagenic effect than cyanazine. The atrazine herbicide is less toxic than its metabolite, deethyl atrazine. The use of cyanazine and atrazine represents a potential danger for man due to their genotoxicity.
