On the grounds of the results obtained it has been concluded that drying of oaks (Quercus petraea) in Serbia (Yugoslavia) is caused by adverse environmental factors, pest insects and pathogenic microorganisms. Among these the most important ones are vascular mycoses and diseases caused by them. Defoliator insects as primary pests impair the vitality of oak trees to a great extent thus developing certain predispositions for mycoses invasion. Rust disease in leaves and sprouts also impairs the vitality of oak trees, while strong droughts accelerate the process of dying.
