Evaluation of the value of sunflower lines and the way of inheriting of some quantitative characteristics by diallel crossing system

The mode of inheriting, combining abilities of parents, components of genetic variance for plant height, head diameter, oil and grain yield have been evaluated by diallel crossing between the cms sunflower lines and their fertile analogues. For all the investigated characteristics, highly significant variances of GCA (general combining ability) and SCA (special combining ability) have been determined. A moderate to pronounced superdominance has been determined for all the investigated characteristics except for oil content. For this characteristic, the parameters calculated are not reliable for the evaluation of the mode of inheriting due to the strong interallel interaction. Lines having good combining abilities (GCA and SCA) have been determined.
