Estimation of heritability and correlation of milk characteristics in first three lactations in Black-White cows

On the basis of the obtained values of heritability and genetic correlation coefficients it can be concluded that milk production and its fat content are mainly controlled by the same genes in cows from the first to the third lactation. Further improvement of the examined properties is achievable through a strict selection of bull-sires in the progeny testing procedure. Examination of cattle productive qualities, evaluation of their hereditary characteristics and search for the best methods of breeding them in order to increase milk production and its fat content should continue in the same conditions.
