On the basis of the results obtained by varietal macroexperiments with winter and spring barley varieties, on two localities in Metohija (Yugoslavia), it can be concluded: a) in experiments with winter varieties on both localities significant differences were found among the investigated varieties. The average difference in the grain yield between varieties with the highest and the lowest yield was 1,013 kg/ha (locality Klina) and 530 kg/ha (locality Istok). The highest yield was obtained with the Partizan variety. From the winter brewer's barley varieties, the highest yield was obtained with the varieties, NS-183, NS-293 and OS-459/1 and the highest content of extract was with the varieties, NS-183, NS-293 and Pan; b) the investigated spring varieties also manifested significant differences among each other. The highest grain yield was obtained with the varieties NS-301 and Dilj and the best extract content with the varieties Kraguj and Kalnik whereas varieties Dilj, NS-296 and NS294 produced satisfactory results. Winter varieties had grain yield higher than spring varieties by 1,130 kg/ha on the average and as regards the content of extract they are at the level of spring varieties.
