Lactation performance of the Friesian cattle on the Accra Plains [Ghana]

The parameters related to lactation performance of 50 Friesian cows maitained at the Amrahia Dairy Farm were evaluated. Lactation length was highly and positively correlated with total milk yield (r=0.71, P0.05). Age of cow and season of calving had no significant effect on total milk yield but had a significant effect (P0.05) on lactation length. Cows calving in the minor rainy season had longer lactation lengths than those calving in the major rainy season and dry seasons. Peak weekly milk yield was attained between second and fourth week of lactation
