Application of the ELISA test in milk for the detection of EBL antibodies

Serum samples from 145 cows of a dairy herd were examined by gel diffusion and ELISA for EBL antibodies. 16 and 20 samples were found positive respectively. Milk samples from 135 cows of the same herd were examined by ELISA and 18 were found positive. Testing mixtures of milk from the animals of the same herd it was found that when 10"percent" of the animals were infected the test was positive. In conclusion the application of the ELISA in the milk was found very effective and advantageous because it permits the repeated examination either in single or pooled milk samples.
