Management of hybrid Ruiru 11 [eleven] Arabica coffee - a review

The need to develop disease resistant coffee varieties was felt early 1971 and breeding programmes were initiated whose optimal outcome was the cultivar Ruiru 11 (eleven). This paper highlights on the significance of developing this Arabica coffee hybrid, its plant characteristics and tentative agronomic practices applied on it. All these are based on the previous knowledge of the other Arabica coffee cultivars, initial material from coffee breeding unit and the current on-going specific investigations on the hybrid. The plan of action and the outcome of good cultivation practices are mentioned
